Two and a Half Men: I missed the boat

I never watched this show and now that it’s on, well like 6 times a day - I’ve succumbed to it wholeheartedly. I think I never gave it a chance because I percieved it as a one joke show. And you know what? It is, but it turns out to be a really really good joke, and possibly almost as fun as most of Charlie Sheen’s comic book real life.

Has anyone ever trashed his career, taken such a tabloid nosedive and pulled out of it this well? It’s almost the equivalent of Britney Spears one day becoming the next Bruce Springsteen.

Steve Earle: Been called a traitor and a patriot

Bonehead that I am and so in agreement with the awesomely rowdy yet less than Dylan like chorus, I never even heard that the last line of the song pays tribute to Lenny Bruce, and yet how could it not? Here he dedicates an early version to Lenny. And to think the Dixie Chicks think that they got hassled.

Brilliance and Mood Disorders

On a related note to my Bobby Fischer post above. A psychiatrist I went to and I had maybe one interesting conversation in the entire time we saw each other. He had a ton of Vincent Van Gogh books in his office. I asked him if this was due to his profession and Van Gogh’s mental illness. He denied this and instead said that he merely liked the way Van Gogh saw the world.

Finding Future Stars in Agony

I’ve been unproductive of late. I need to get my shoulder scoped and I’m full of pain medication that isn’t exactly doing it’s job. So unable to do anything else, I’ve continued to download old episodes of Lou Grant from iTunes. It’s a little heavy handed and Ed Asner is nowhere near as cranky and hilarious as he previously was on the Mary Tyler Moore show, but it’s interesting to see them debate issues that are mostly still relevant today 30 years ago. It’s a little hokey, because they always wind up covering two news stories that show both sides of the issue, but they meant well.
