No one appreciates self deprecation

I used to be a big fan of self deprecating humor, but I’m giving it up. People as a whole aren’t smart enough to deal with irony. You tell a funny story about one rare time that you acted badly or stupidly and they just assume that you are totally bad or totally stupid. Meanwhile, a moron acts like he knows everything and they take their word for it.

Here’s someone who just learned that lesson the hard way.

White House Press Secretary Dana Perino recently told this story on NPR and has been getting lambasted all over the place for it.

“I was panicked a bit because I really don’t know about . . . the Cuban Missile Crisis,” said Perino, who at 35 was born about a decade after the 1962 U.S.-Soviet nuclear showdown. “It had to do with Cuba and missiles, I’m pretty sure.”

“I came home and I asked my husband, I said, ‘Wasn’t that like the Bay of Pigs thing?’ And he said, ‘Oh, Dana.'”

So she didn’t know about the time the world was about 6 seconds away from coming to an end? White House Press Secretary is such a nimrod job I personally couldn’t care whether she knows how to tie her shoes.

Frankly, I’d love to see George W. Bush answer questions on U.S. History. I bet he’d miss questions on his father’s presidency. Check that, I bet he’d miss questions on his own presidency.

Are we ready for America’s Most Smartest High Ranking Government Official?
