Apparently trying to be controversial, Entertainment Weekly just named All You Need Is Love as both the 50th best Beatles song as well as THE WORST Beatles song. Someone on staff felt it to be too repetitive.
1. The verses are quite clever
2. The song remains a near perfect political statement, especially as it was written and performed as England’s contribution to Our World the first live global television link
3. The chorus is supposed to be repetitive – the statement after all is that love is ALL you need
Clearly they were just trying to be cheeky in an attempt to piss off overly sensitive types like myself.
Besides, anyone with a brain knows that the worst Beatles song ever is Maxwell’s Silver Hammer.
