John Waters, Jerry Brown and Leslie Van Houten

Wrote about this at the time of the John Waters push for her release a few years ago.

I think Jerry Brown probably should have allowed her parole. He just denied her for the second time although the parole board have recommended her release. She’ll probably never get out.

She’s of no threat to anyone. She was young and drugged and brainwashed. She probably only stabbed a dead body on only the second night. She has been a model prisoner and shown as much remorse as humanly possible. I understand how creepy those murders were, but she probably doesn’t deserve to be the longest woman prisoner in California history.

Some times you have to value forgiveness too. She knows what she did – she still has to live with it.

It’s easy enough to say rot in jail forever, but there’s a lot more to the story than the original gruesome story, unless you just never ever parole a murderer ever.

I see the other side. It wouldn’t matter to me how remorseful Mark David Chapman was, I never would want to see him freed. I’m only asking that people read what Waters wrote and think about it.

The question of who should and shouldn’t be paroled, rehabilitation, and forgiveness fascinates me, but it’s easier to just say let them all rot forever. If I were related to the LaBiancas or anyone else I would be uncomfortable talking about it, it’s a hard question.
