It’s still the same old story
A fight for love and glory
A case of do or die
The world will always welcome lovers
There are things about John McCain’s life that people will always argue about and things that most will never argue about.
Almost everyone will say he was heroic for going to Viet Nam when many rich kids skipped it, and one specific rich guy skipped it with a doctor’s excuse about bone spurs. He could have done that and later spoke out about what a crime it was that poor people couldn’t do that too.
Even people who hated that war and skipped it on purpose defiantly accepting the repercussions will give him a nod for that.
Then he was captured and tortured and could have gone home at any time by doing things that would have hurt others and chose not to and all but one person thinks he’s a hero for that.
So when he ran for president he did so saying, “I’m the guy who will reach across the aisles and unite this country. ”
He also did things that made that dream of his fail. Sarah Palin and whatever things he voted for or against that you don’t like no matter what your slant.
So he had two goals be president and unite the country. He was never president.
He did know that he was dying.
He did probably hate Donald Trump for purely personal reasons, but he knew that aside from those personal reasons Trump was a menace.
Trump started out his political career with birther nonsense. McCain was running for president could have maybe benefitted from birther nonsense, but instead said Barack Obama is a good guy and was born here. We just disagree on certain issues.
After that, he could have been petty, and just hated Barack Obama simply because he killed his dream to be president.
But even if he only knew it at the end, the most important job of a president is to stop the country from burning down around you. Trump is willing to watch that happen to suit his ego.
So when McCain found out that he was leaving the planet. He banned Donald Trump from his funeral and decided on bipartisan eulogies one from each of the last two presidents, who were from different parties.
So whatever his failures in life. Whatever he regretted about not being the guy who was the ULTIMATE hero with a title that will be in every history book, he probably saw all the partisan nonsense and decided to have a bipartisan funeral that left out the people who do not understand America.
Donald Trump tweeted noncommittally because he basically had to do so.
I like this tweet better.

So whatever his failures in life, he knew he was dying and hopefully he planned his funeral to do exactly what he wanted to do. Unite the country by being bipartisan. The only thing he never will be was president, and hopefully, before he died he realized that wasn’t the point of the job. Richard Nixon mostly did not get that. Donald Trump will never get that. John McCain seemingly did.
It’s that old Casablanca cliche. You fight for love and glory for personal gain unless there are Nazis. If there are Nazis, you put it all aside and fight Nazis.
RIP John McCain
You must remember this
A kiss is just a kiss
A sigh is just a sigh
The fundamental things apply
As time goes by
And when two lovers woo
They still say “I love you”
On that you can rely
No matter what the future brings
As time goes by
Moonlight and love songs
Never out of date
Hearts full of passion
Jealousy and hate
Woman needs man, and man must have his mate
That no one can deny
It’s still the same old story
A fight for love and glory
A case of do or die
The world will always welcome lovers
As time goes by
Moonlight and love songs
Never out of date
Hearts full of passion
Jealousy and hate
Woman needs man, and man must have his mate
That no one can deny
It’s still the same old story
A fight for love and glory
A case of do or die
The world will always welcome lovers
As time goes by
