I’ve always sort of thought that Steve Marriot was an amazing singer/frontman, but lately, I’ve come to think so even more. I could be clever writing about it but I have decided that it is so apparent to just let him do the talking and keep me to a minimum. He was known as small in stature, but wow huge in talent.
This all started when I saw a video of Kenny Jones talking about Itchykoo Park and what it really meant and how it wasn’t really supposed to be a single. I always thought it was about going to the park, getting stoned, and having fun. Kenny is a nice guy, but damn it’s a perfect single and it sure seems like Steve is dying to have Keith Moon playing with him here as he tries to incite chaos and fun. (Keith Moon was chaos and fun.)
I don’t want to get political these days but if I did it would be nice to have him around now. He could do anything that he or you wanted him too.
He was part of one of the first and best concept albums and wrote and sang mostly all of it.
He had high aspirations.
Apparently, they wanted him in the Stones but he didn’t need much effort to upstage Mick Jagger.
I have two friends in prison that I don’t think should be there and he had something to say about it.
Life is sad and complicated and a lot of his was too. Like me he shouldn’t have been a smoker, but know more about him, know how awesome a frontman he was, and learn from his life.
I’m working on all of that.
