One of my funniest encounters in San Francisco was a birthday dinner for a friend of mine around 1995.
I got there a little late and had ten people introduced to me who I didn’t know. I’m horrible with names so probably instantly forgot all of them.
Most of the people that I didn’t know were at my end of the table and they were all talking about figure skating, which was fine even though I don’t know that much about it, but I listened and it was fairly interesting.
Then suddenly this one guy said, “I’d have to agree my prime was from around 28 to 30.”
I thought to myself, “Who in the world talks like that?” You’d have to either be completely full of yourself or someone who has accomplished something epic to refer to your athletic prime.
So I politely asked the guy, “What did you say your name was?”
And he said “Brian Boitano”
And I laughed and said, “Wow. OK carry on”

My friend Marc Shulman on just made it better.

That’s him in the C hat, humbly across from the guy with the bling watch. I was sitting next to the girl on the right out of shot. The only other guy I know is the guy to my friend’s left. We were all clerks at one time and know what it’s like to be around incredibly rich people all the time when you ain’t rich.
They usually drink all night. That ain’t me and that wasn’t what I wanted for my life. It wasn’t who I wanted to meet for a wife, which is why I’m still single and wouldn’t take that job back for a million bucks.
Good friend. Just picked up with him after over 25 years. We used to con or ways into a very fancy temple to pick up girls and sit in the back.
Now he belongs to that temple and pays a fortune for it. Proud of him. He deserves it.

Hell yes I recognized his name. He was already a legend and became a bigger legend after South Park became big. The birthday person was my clerk originally. By that point he was a trader like me. There was no party just a big dinner at a nice restaurant with a long table in the Marina of San Francisco about a half mile from the shore of the Bay Otis sang about, but Otis sang from the other side.
Did you recognize his name ? I know a little about professional skating and I remember. What did the birthday person do for a living , that B.B. was at the party ?
